As a grad student subletting for the summer, I thought this Varsity Place apartment on Woodman would be convenient and easy. Was I ever wrong. I continue to be amazed at the level of rudeness and lack of helpfulness by Varsity Place staff. Here are some of the absurd things they have done: 1.) The room has a shared bathroom/kitchen with another room. When I moved in no one lived there. There NEVER informed me when the person was going to move in, until 5 minutes beforehand. At this time they called me (and my phone was off because I was at work) and simply stated: "Someone is moving into the other room today. Unlock the bathroom door or we will come into your room in five minutes" Thanks for the advanced notice guys! 2.) As a subletter I have to play a $25 fee and fill out a form for Varsity Place. So they have me on file YET they will not let a "subletter" have any normal "rights". They will not call me if there is a problem. They will not let me buy a normal parking pass, they will not apparently, do anything for me, everything MUST be through the person I subletted from. So what was that 25$ fee/form for anyways? 3.) I moved in and was not allowed to buy a parking pass because the parking lot was "full" (I never knew 3 filled spots out of approx 20 meant it was full!). Finally they said I could buy a pass but only for one week at a time for two weeks until their official "summer" parking began. I asked if I could just pay it all at once, no, of course not. But their office closes at 4, BEFORE I get home from work. Finally when I went to get my official summer parking pass (after wondering why they refuse to fill an empty parking lot for weeks) I sent my fiance since I had to work. He was not allowed to do it, nor do they take cash. So I had to go there on another day, and was, of course, treated disrespectfully, but finally got my pass! 4.) I thought my troubles were over, when the next thing happened. Apparently they switched the laundry cards for the machines on site, but since I am a subletter, NO ONE told me. So I went to put more money on my card (I had a few bucks left on it) and I was informed that that card does not work anymore and I have to hand it it. BUT, I CANNOT get my money back that was on it, and I just "should have known they were switching the cards" (the person I sublet from also states they never received an email on the subject from Varsity Place). Additionally, I can hand the card back in,but I am NOT ALLOWED to take the new card, because I am the "subletter". I asked how exactly I am supposed to do laundry and was told "there's a laundry mat downtown". Gee. Thanks for your help. So I had to call the person I sublet from (who thank GOD doesn't live far away) and he had to come pick up my laundry card and give it to me. Of course, by this time, the office was closed, and due to my work schedule, I won't be able to put money on my card for another week. 5.) I have also been accused disrespectfully of purposefully locking my roommate out of the bathroom (it has two doors and two locks, and has accidentally been left locked). Of course, the company never even introduced me to my roommate, and I have only ever seen her twice. Maybe if they had introduced us when showing her the room, we could have exchanged information so no one has to call them. 6.) They have barged in without notice to show the room as well. Overall, I find that Varsity Place is the most HORRIBLE and disrespectful company I have ever rented from. They treat people like crap, completely without respect, and have so many bizarre "rules" and money making schemes. Every time I go in, I think there can't possibly be another way for them to make my life difficult and inconvenient, but they always manage to find a new way to ruin my day. My opinion: DON'T RENT FROM THEM, DON'T GIVE THEM YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY SO THEY CAN ABUSE YOU.
